Tiger Misses and Slocum Connects at the Barclay’s Golf…

Tuesday, September 1st, 2009
Tiger Misses and Slocum Connects!

Exciting finish to the Barclays Fed Ex Cup Tournament this
weekend!

You expected Tiger to make that six footer after that great
approach shot from the fairway. He missed it and a play-off!
In most situations, it’s a done deal for Tiger and another victory.

Yet there was Heath Slocum with the smooth, relaxed swing from

the fairway shot and swinging the putter back and thru with rhythm

with the pressure on and down it went and his biggest tournament

check ever!

It certainly has a lot to do with the putter. Isn’t that the truth man.

You get up and down from around the green, from an errant fairway
shot and still you have that ONE chance to make your putt. In match
play it can quickly be all even again. And you go to the next hole
a winner.

So if you are having problems with your putting, three putting too

much and missing those short putts six feet and in putts then here’s
a solution for you that will give you the knowledge and restore the

that confident feeling in your putting stroke.

A real turning point for Michelle Wie’s golf career at the Solheim Cup…

Monday, August 24th, 2009

Did you see the Solheim Cup finals? Wow!

I really got that this was a real turning point in Michelle Wie’s career as a true upcoming LPGA touring star. You see her determination as a  individual player in the singles matches and her new found strength  as a group team member. You see them both working as one for the American effort.

What a thrill to play for your country?

Winning three points in her first Solheim Cup appearance was impressive indeed. And helped the team defeat the Euros here on American turf in Illinois.

I think the golf camaraderie and sense of bonding with other key US players for Michelle, who has been labeled a bit of an isolationist and into her own thing as a player, will redefine her career and direction. And not only make her a better player but send her in the right orbit to higher heights.

Look for Michelle to go and win her first LPGA event this Fall. Like autumn, you can feel it in the golf air from where I am these days.

This is exciting!

That’s how I see it for the time being.

A Quick Mental Game Tip for You..!

Friday, May 22nd, 2009

Your mental attitude and how you
approach hitting shots has a lot to do with
the outcome. So if you approach or perceive shots in fear, anxiety or anger, the result will most likely not be positive, versus hitting shots
in interest or enthusiasm.

Try it and I think you’ll see better results with your game.

Who knows, you might even have more fun while playing.

Best regards, Bob Cisco

P.S. More Golf Tips like this are available on my web site at www.allaboutgolf.us/tips

Does that make sense? Try this out and let me
know if this works for you. Yep. You can’t worry about the past as it cannot be changed. You can only influence the future and positive attitude has everything to do with it.

Your Three Metal is Key to Control Off the Tee…

Monday, May 11th, 2009

Hi Guys:

Take a page from Players’ Championship winner
Henrik Stenson’s play book, who used his three
wood
off the tee the majority of times and
hit all 13 fairways in the last round, on
his way to a cool effortless 66. And win by
four strikes.

His secret  weapon was a 13 degree three
wood that gave him super control and distance
off the tee.

I’ve been a big believer of using the three
metal off the tee for years now to drive for
position in the fairway. And have recommended
using it as a strategy to all my students.
I even wrote a drill you use can do with
hitting the driver vs. the three wood in
my golf  book, “The Ultimate Game of Golf”
(Sect. 3). www.allbaoutgolf.us/books

So try using your three wood more if you
want to have better scores, be in the fairway,
and control your drives off the tee box.

Tiger could well use his 3 wood more to his advantage.

Pretty Good Play at Quail Hollow..! Or was that a Preview of the Players Chapionship?

Monday, May 4th, 2009

We got a look at some great ball striking at the Quail Hollow Championship this weekend.

Seemed like all the players took their game to the next level with Woods enterered in the field and hit good shots all week.

Kudos to O’Hair for his great play. He had Faldo remarking on his ball striking being “Hoganesque”,  his longest putt around 8 feet all day except on the 17 th. He hit a lot of solid shots all week. He’s becoming a player to reckon with. And I am sure his mano to mano play with Tiger at Bay Hill made him a better player.

Bubba Watson has some game and great touch around the green for a guy who hits it 370 yards and more. Were’s Daly gone to?

Tiger back for more next week. You don’t think Woods is prepping for the US Open do you think  playing in such events?

So dial it all in again on TV this weekend for The Players Championship.  I know I will for sure along with the Lakers and Rockets basketball sandwiched in between.

Will the Aussies rule at Sawgrass?

See you next week,  Bob Cisco

Does Practicing Your Golf Work for You..?

Wednesday, April 22nd, 2009

We all know that to play better golf
we need to practice various parts of
our game. Driving, irons, putting and
sand play.

But there is a problem here with this:
tap on www.allaboutgolf.us/blog for the
rest of the story.

I’ve been studying this area for
sometime now and have found that the
majority of golfers don’t practice their
game often enough and when they do, they
aren’t getting the most out of the time
and effort spent practicing.

So many golfers don’t practice because
they don’t see any real benefit from
it so why bother. Plus, it takes time.

I found that those who do like to
practice and find it enjoyable report
that their game is better especially
if they are able to put in some regular
practice time towards it.

So here are some tips to improve and make
your practice more worthwhile.

1). Find a regular time you can practice
say a half to full hour in the early morning
or early evening hours a couple of times
a week;

2). Work on each part and practice it to a
point where you feel you achieve something
like your putting or wedge play;

3). If you only have a short time period,
work on one part of the game like your
putting;

4). Practicing with a partner or golf
buddy makes it more fun and you can
challenge one another at various skill
competitions;

5). Practice keeps the golf muscles engaged
and working and creates the muscle memory
active inthe golf swing and the short game
skills area.

In Part II of this golf training article,
I will take up more on this issue of how to
get the most out of your practice and your
golf game.

Great Masters Sunday Finish

Tuesday, April 14th, 2009

Wow! What a finish to the Masters! it was shoot-out at ok corral for sure. Phil’s excellent adventure and 30 on the front nine and Tiger’s eagle at the 8 th hole.

I suspected a play-off but with Tiger one of the guys!

A victory for Cabrera and Argentina. And for Roberto D. (the wrong score on scorecard inc.)

Disappointment for KP. Kenny will be back next sure and know how to get it done. He’s had a great three year ride in his late 40s and is a super guy. He even clapped for Angel the eventual winner. How’s that for class!

Certaintly was a great Masters! Now onward for the US Open in June as golf’s 2nd major of the season continues in mid June in New York.

Shootout at the Masters on Easter Sunday..!

Sunday, April 12th, 2009

Watch Jim Furyk grap the lead at the turn today and the theater unfold thru Amen Corner and the par 5s with the leaderboard today on this Master’s Sunday’s final round.

Tiger needs a 64 for better to make playoff or to win.

But I think in the end, it’s Kenny Perry’s who will manuver thru the road-jam. And his lucky star will shine and prevail when it is all over at 18!

Enjoy Easter and the Masters to all who love the game of golf!

Do You Have This Problem with Golf’s Short Game?

Monday, February 9th, 2009

Hi Guys:

I had a golfer not to long ago e mail with a problem
he’s been having in his game, with his scoring game.

I probably get this one question more frequently than
any other from golfers like Steve and if you too
are also having this difficulty, then here are some
ideas for you on how to overcome it.

When you have a good score going and are playing close
to your handicap, do you have holes where you blow up
and your score balloons up?

This is in my opinion the most frustrating and confusing
part of the game. You’re doing all right and even enjoying
yourself and then out of nowhere you screw it up big time.
And have to sign your score card and its a bad score yet
you played better than that and you know it.

I know how you feel and am disappointed myself to say the
least when I have a couple of bad holes when playing well
and it ends up costing me my score for the day. It also
bothers me too when it doesn’t really reflect the type of
round I had going or was capable of scoring for the day.

So I thought I would address this issue here and see if I
can provide some insight into how to address this problem
for the betterment of your game.

To me, this is more a mental game issue as it relates to a
particular phenomena that happens when your playing well
and you brake out of your normal game habits and play more
to your real potential.

We all love this when it happens and it is a confidence
booster and we all of the sudden think we can start
taking chances and hitting shots we don’t really have.

It’s great to feel more confident but what you probably
don’t know or realize at the time is that you changed
your strategy and started getting more agggressive on shots
you don’t have the skills and control factor and the result
is is that now you get yourself more in trouble and have
to face a series of shots that can alter the fate of your
round and its score (and your morale).

That’s right! One of two shots done wrong can put you in
a worst spot and now you are faced with a shot you aren’t
sure how to hit like a lob shot over a trap or hitting
over a tree. All of a sudden matters get worse and you
throw shots away and usually its in these stretches of
holes where you “lose it all”.

So what I recommend is this: the golf philsophy is to
keep the ball in play and when you don’t, get right back
in play. Don’t attempt to hit the “hero” shot but get
back in the game, the fairway and make the next shot count.
Reestablish control both mentally and physically and get
back to your game plan of shots you can hit comfortably.

Golfers make the mistake of playing aggressivley and
conservatively at the wrong time. Stick to what works
for you and only gamble on playing aggressively when
the hole is wide open, you feel confident and you won’t
be penalize for a bad shot too severly.

I also suggest you start out your round the first six
holes or so conservatively. This can make a real difference
with your score and allows you to warm up and see what you
have for the day. Do I have my “A” or “B” or “C” game today.
and play these conservatively.

Here’s an exercise you can do which is from my first book:
“The Ultimate Game of Golf” Course, Part 3: Strategy section,
which some of you have. p. 247, “The Two Ball Drill”. This is
one of my favorite drills. www.allboutgolf.us/books

This drill teaches you that you can score just as well without
your driver using a three wood or hybrid off the tee. It also
teaches you that when you play more conservatively, a number of
advantages come your way, i.e. like being in the fairway and
in position to hit to the green or being below the hole so
you can putt uphill to the hole.

Let me know if this info is helpful. I would love to hear how
you are doing with your game. Drop me an e mail at

Golf Training Tip: Taking Care of Your Equipment

Thursday, January 15th, 2009

Bob Cisco Tips on Better Golf –

Hi Guys:

Here is one word of advice that not only helps you play
better golf but can save some money in the long run as well.

Take your golf clubs and give them a thorough cleaning of the
grips. Most golfers grips get too slick and get slippery and
this leads to errant golf shots where the club has slipped
some in your hands.

Golfers tend not to take care of their equipment. Cleaning and
checking heads, shafts and especially grips. How many of us hit
golf shots with the clubhead and grooves dirty. Get in the habit
of cleaning not only your club heads after a shot, but maintaining
your golf grips better. Keep your head covers on after shots.

Here’s what you can do to preserve the life and responsiveness of
your golf grips.

1>. Use a light gauge of sand paper to loosen the grit from the grip
2>. Wash the grip of the club with water and a good soap
3>. Clean the dirt and moisure from the grip and let dry
4>. Apply a sticky residue to the grip if still too slick to get
that tacky feel back to the grip

If you do this not only will your clubs grips be tacky and more
respondsve, but this process, if you do it every 3-4 mos will preserve
the life of your grips and clubs an additional 12-30 mos.

You can also change out your grips when the above doesn’t work any more.

Many golf shops like Roger Dunn Golf Shops (Calif) has a great repair shop and can do this for you while you shop the store.

Take care of your equipment and especially your grips! It will help you play better golf.
